Thoughts (Apps): Dubmash & My Idol

Hey guys! It's been 2 months since my last post and I apologise for neglecting my blog. I'm hoping to be more consistent now so do be patient :)

First off, I wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who has watched my videos, shared them, gave me a thumbs up, commented on them & of course, subscribed to my channel! I am so grateful for the support everyone has given to me up till now. I'm well aware I am a beginner but thank you for supporting nonetheless. Do visit my channel, tehshaowei, if you haven't already!

Alright! Back to the topic - my thoughts on Dubmash & My Idol!

Dubmash

Everyone has been uploading their own Dubmash-es online lately and as much as you want to not get into this fad, you can't. Why? Because it's AWESOME.
To be able to lip sync your favourite movie quote (Mean girls is my favourite), song lyric and more is beyond fun. Pretty sure lip synching is a trend right now.

I mean look at Spike's Lip Sync Battle hosted by LL cool J (Did you guys say it in that guy's voice too?). Coincidence? I think not.

Here are some of my attempts. I must warn you. I'm not very good but it sure is a hella fun:

"Nope. You're still ugly."

"Stupid Fat Hobbit"

Positives:

Everything I've mentioned up there.

One negative comment:

You have to be on point and you have to learn the words before recording yourself which will take a bit of time. You're also under pressure because you're competing against other animated people who are just born to rule Dubmash.

My Idol

So while studying, I downloaded an app called Huanshi ltd or My Idol (will do anything to distract myself obviously). I wanted to test out the face scanner and see if it really did the trick. I've seen some instagrammers use it, some of them don't look like them at all but some of them do. I needed to try it out myself. I took a picture of myself and scanned it. I turned out to be a boy.. For awhile, I thought the app thought I was a guy and that I couldn't change my gender. But being a banana who cannot read chinese as well, I was actually mistaken. My friend showed me how to change my gender and oh. my. god. it was uncanny. The app did such a great job in capturing my features (tho I do look more beautiful in the app. Thank you, My Idol. You're.. my idol. hurhurhur). You get to play around with your cartoon version too! It's like playing Barbie but the more advance version. I get to dress up and play with new hair colours so I ain't complaining.

Here are some of the pictures/videos I took!:

Look at that! I think I might be the only one who sees the resemblance!:

"Hi I'm Shao Wei 2.0"

Kung Fu Master? No problem.

Opera singer? SURE THING!

Ever wanted to be a pole dancer and get those fantastic abs? Now you can without breaking a sweat!

Positives:

Everything I've mentioned.

One negative comment:

It's in Chinese which is not a negative thing. Just that its inconvenient for non-Chinese speakers but I'm Chinese so I shall keep quiet (How did Lady Gaga use this?!). You can't change your body shape! But I wouldn't scan my whole body anyway.

You can tell that I'm really enjoying myself. Will definitely make more Dubmash and My Idol videos.
Until next time!

Challenge 2: Normal Crop Top

Hey guys! Been awhile, hasn't it? I've been so busy these past few days because of Chinese New Year but I'll leave that for another post! So I was challenged to make NORMAL crop tops and to make several outfits with it by Jolie Lee. She specifically asked to match the crop tops with low waisted jeans (which is a challenge itself because most people wear crop tops with high waisted pants/skirt). She is my first commenter and I'm so grateful for this challenge. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to make a video (CNY + moving house in Melbourne) because I'm trying to accommodate the fact that she wants to get ready for a party tomorrow :) Even though I did this in a short period of time, I hope you enjoy it !

              Method

I managed to find a top I was bored off in my luggage bag. I'm currently in Melbourne so I don't have access to my whole wardrobe!

  1. Choose a shirt you're willing to cut!
  2. Fold the shirt according to the length you want your crop top to be.
  3. Cut accordingly with a scissors.
  4. Tug the ends to widen it.
  5. TA-DA! Your very own crop top!
It's a pretty easy process to make a normal crop top!

                     Outfits

I apologise for the lighting! It wasn't at its best because I had a meeting to attend so I only could start taking pictures at 7pm (AUS time) today! Even though the pictures didn't turn out well (hella pixelated), I still decided to post the photos to give you guys a glimpse on how the outfit will look like on me. I tried to filter it out as much as I could but filters can only do so much!

LAYER IT
- Lace crop top (Creates abit of umph! to the plain crop top!)
- Pink diamante ear rings (Create a great contrast to the blue!)
- Wedges (Feel free to use your highest pumps if you're going to a party that doesn't require much walking!)

TUCK IT
- Tying my blue blouse around my waist (For those who are abit insecure about your tummy fats, this is a perfect way to hide them!)
- Sandals (Just to match the casual look)

BLOCK IT
- Wearing my black and white blouse over it
- Black and silver statement necklace (Just to add to the rocker chick vibe)
- Brown boots (Enough of black! Needs a bit of brown to tone it down!)

FLARE IT
- Wearing the lace crop top underneath (You just turned a boring crop top into something special!)
- Bangles
- Brown Boots ( Feel free to wear flats or heels cause this look matches all of it!)

And that is it! There are millions of ways to mix and match your crop tops so just explore your options! This was all I could concoct in such a short period of time!

On a different note, I'm currently waiting for my apartment lease to start and till then, my friend has been so lovely to let me stay at her place till I settle down. It's my first time filming in her house (living area + kitchen) so I'm getting used to the lighting especially since I'm in Melbourne and I'm not used to the lighting just yet because I've only filmed in Malaysia so far!

Fringe Crop Tops

Yesterday, I decided to pimp up my old tops so I would actually start wearing them again and so I did! I love the end product and I can't wait to experiment more! :) I'm definitely going forth w the YouTube idea so I'm planning to take a video of the process tomorrow and hopefully upload it by this week! I'm so excited 😁! Do support me!

Here's a glimpse of the tops I've pimped up!

1. Transformed my Bermuda Eagles top (from the guy's section) to a fringe crop top 😊
I actually bought this top for my OBS (outward bound Singapore) trip 5 years ago!

2. Mum got me this too for CNY 4 years ago. I decided to take it up a notch by adding a few bling from a bracelet I do not wear anymore!

Going to make a sleeveless crop top tomorrow for the video! Hoping the lighting will be good! Tata~

Youtube Channel

It's 1046pm and I am contemplating whether to create a Youtube channel this week. What brought this up, you ask? Well a few factors:

  1. I've always fantasized about creating a Youtube channel
Have you? I used to always think my hyper and cheerful personality would be perfect for it but I knew that it required a huge commitment just like everything else.
  2. Always wanted to Vlog about my life. Not on a daily basis but just the special occasions because I love sharing my experiences with people.
  3. Instagram was getting boring
Pictures are fun and all but sometimes you just want to say more than a thousand words (get it?)
  4. My best friend is creating her own channel
She was the one who actually pushed me to do it. She told me about all the exciting stuff we could do together and basically just cheered me on from there.
What is preventing me from going forward with it?
  1.  Time commitment
I know it takes a lot of time to edit videos and I'm worried I'll just give up half way because I can't commit to it.
  2. Comments
Youtubers always talk about how their haters and most of them brush them off. It'll be a bumpy ride but it'll make me a stronger person.
  3. My camera
I tried to take a video once with my current camera and the quality was pretty bad. I'm trying to work with what I have right now so we'll see how it goes.
  4. The fear
Honestly, I think number 1 - 3 are just excuses, I'm just scared. Scared of what? I don't know.. maybe the public. But I'll never get to it if I don't push myself so I will give this a try. I'll never know until I try, right? :)

What kind of Youtube channel am I going to make?

You know how people say, "Do a new thing everyday"? Well that will be the theme of my Youtube channel, I want to challenge myself to do a new thing. Whether it's on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, it doesn't matter. I'll give myself a year and see how it goes from there. The channel will make me challenge myself more and experience new things. I'm hoping it'll make my year more fruitful &  it's not just narrowed down to this, I might do other random stuff like take part in the Youtube tags. I'm really into OOTDs so maybe I'll do a "Get Ready with Me" video one day as well! Basically, I want my Youtube channel to be open and not restricted to just challenges. I'm getting so excited just thinking about it!

What will happen to this blog? Will I make it public?

I'm not sure about that right now. But for now, I'm going to keep this blog on a down low. Most of my friends don't even know I've started blogging again. I want to see if I attract people I don't know tho I'm not sure how I'm going to do that! Maybe by chance? Is that a little too hopeful?

Pre-roommate Experience

OMG I'm so excited right now! I woke up at 7am (Malaysian time) because my friend in Melbourne was inspecting a place at 10am (Australian time). It was all down to this. If this place didn't work out then we promised that we will all go our separate ways (what I mean by that is that we will live separately). I'm so happy that the place turned out much better than we expected and that we actually have a chance in getting it. It's a good location, good level & have good facilities too! I'm just so ecstatic I get to move in w my two friends. I've never gone through the whole roommate experience even though I've been living overseas for 5 years now so I'm excited!!!!!!! Evidently from the number of exclamation marks I'm using. I know it'll be a thrill ride having roommates. Will definitely have our ups and our downs. Just praying it's more ups than downs but I'm sure we will work things out. Gonna set ground rules with them as soon as our application gets accepted :)! Will defo update on the ground rules! I'm going to go back to sleep now. I've been having morbid dreams lately but I'll leave that for another post.

Increase Saturation.

Day 1 of the internship over and I survived! People were super nice but I won't be talking about my internship publicly but just know, all went well :)

Kuala Lumpur was jampacked today (as always) and all I could think about was "Thank God I have a driver." I cannot imagine driving 2 hours straight stuck in a traffic jam let alone let my mother drive me. It really is a true definition of a city hustle and bustle but I've never been to a Metropolitan City before so what do I know?

Nothing much happened today but I just felt the need (how many times have I used those 3 words?) to write. Today, I wanted to post a selfie on Instagram to commemorate the first day of my internship and I did. As I took the photo, posing at the perfect angle and even drawing up the blinds of the car to get a bit more light exposure, a thought came across.. "Do I look like this in real life?" I didn't photoshop my photo nor did I cover any blemishes. I just did the normal increase exposure, increase saturation and maybe increase contrast shebang but I always feel like I'm faking all of it. Whenever I meet people, I wonder if they think, "Whoah she looks so much better in photos!" Am I digging my own grave? I'm well aware that the angles I pose in are not angles I'm positioned at when I'm talking to someone. I remember meeting someone called James when I was younger (met through MSN) and he said I look "better than the pictures." Granted, he might have just said those words just to flatter me but I really took it to heart. And now as I get better at taking photos and filtering photos, I feel like the pictures are so much better and the real me is downgrading. I don't want to mislead people. However, I talked to a friend about it and I know it's all in my head. "You didn't photoshop your face, your features are all there. That's you." Maybe the lady in the photo is me. Maybe I'm not so bad after all. All these thoughts, they may or may not be true but how I feel about it is what matters. I need to continue building confidence in myself and start being "true to myself." Those 3 words are really strong and I am trying to live by it.

My whole life, I've been taught how to love other people but not much on how to love myself. I guess it was a given because we would naturally tend to our needs but I guess I was paying too much attention on loving people that I forgot to build a love for myself. Not to say I don't pamper myself or what not. I do the normal stuff but my foundation isn't strong enough to make me feel "true to myself." This has nothing to do with my upbringing by the way. It's more of a negative light that was shone on me by myself because of all this overthinking. I have been blessed with a great family and great friends. I've never truly been bullied (just the occasional mean comments by boys when I was younger but boys will be boys. I don't hold a grudge.) so I know that all these negative thoughts are created by me and I have no reason to put this upon myself.

That's why on a daily basis, I tell myself to be confident and to be true to myself. It's not a lot but it's a start.

Beginning of 2015.

Happy New Year!

I thought today's instagram post would be appropriate to start off this blogpost.

"Happy New Year 2014 has personally been a different one for me. Started off w an 8 month break: Travelling w my closest friends to Bali, visiting Melbourne for the first time (thought I was gonna reject Unimelb at the time), getting to enjoy Sydney's nightlife, short trips to Singapore (of course) & most importantly, rebonding w my family especially my dad (since I moved back to Malaysia after 4 years). The memories I made w my dad this year, I will treasure forever along with the other memories I made of course.
Had achieved something I never thought was possible: Got to participate in the Singapore Affordable Art Fair, sold about 8 pieces of my work.

Well those are some of the wonderful things that have happened. But enough about me. Many things have happened to Malaysia this year: 3 unfortunate flights & massive floods in 3 states (number 3 not looking so good right now). I guess these situations have taught us to be grateful for who we have with us right now. That's the best thing we can take from 2014 to the rest of the years to come. Its funny because so many unfortunate things happen every year to other people (war, poverty, sex slavery) but we only really learn to feel and do something about it when things happen closer to home. I will never know what the families of the passengers in those 3 flights or families who have suffered from the floods truly feel but I take it as a sign to really cherish the ones you love and to let go of ones who don't love you. This Instagram post can go on forever so I will stop here!
Happy New Year to all! May 2015 be a joyful year !"

I wonder how many people have started a blog today. Blogspot must be receiving massive numbers of participants today. Hell! I thought I would start writing again last year and I did but I gave up after 6 months which isn't too bad compared to giving up after one blog post.

For now, this will be my summer diary because unfortunately, I left my real diary in Australia and for some reason, whenever I come back to Malaysia, I feel the need to write again. It's probably because I have more personal time to reflect on my life which I love by the way. Instead of living my life in this fast pace world, I get to stop and think about what I've done and what I should be doing instead of continuously keeping myself busy everyday. Do forgive me for any grammatical mistakes I might make now and in the future. My English has deteriorated ever since I moved from Malaysia because of the lack of writing and I'm trying to improve it slowly. On the same note, forgive me if I drift off to a new topic all of the sudden. Sometimes I tend to think of other things and I just feel the need to write it down but hey, who's reading this, right? I'm writing this for myself and not for others (tho I welcome any positive or constructive feedback).

I might write several posts in one day or none at all. It's really just a blog filled with my thoughts. I have no intention of gaining viewership (tho that would be nice) because I think this world is already filled with many social media outlets that make us feel the need to get many "likes" and I'm guilty of that so I'm trying to teach myself that that isn't important and I should post what I want to post, not what I think my viewers would like to see.
